Finally, I think I’m making something worth while.

I finished up this big one!! I’m loving the pattern making I’ve got going on. I finally think I’ve nailed down the work I want to make as well as the concept behind it!! This seems like relief.
So what am I thinking about?
I’m thinking about how the body is a vessel and how throughout our lives the vessel we are give becomes internally and externally changed throughout our existence. The usage of the different patterns represents these changes and how I am able to process them. The carving aspect showcases ‘scarification’ of the vessel. Which represents the narrative of bodily autonomy as we can choose what ‘scars’ do and don’t impact us.

I’ve also spent some time this week working on what to put in my mini kiln for kiln class. Seeing as I normally build large, I switched gears and made some small plates to stack and wad together, and maybe they will create some money for me at the sale!

I’m really enjoying the things I’m making. I feel like I finally have a true direction for my work. And I’m getting towards a show that I feel that I will be proud of. This is a huge step in the right direction, and now that all the “what ifs” are answered I can make with a sense of purpose!
